How to Make an Invisible File

Here is a article on How to make a Hidden file on your computer (Windows Operating Systems Only). This is useful when you're using a computer that many other people use. e.g Family and friends. With these steps, the file is invisible because we are not hiding it, we are just give it a transparent icon and a space at its name, but someone can select it if they know where it is in desktop or any folder.

 Steps

   Create a new folder in your specified directory.

   Right Click -> New -> Folder, and a new folder will be created in that directory.

   Customize the folder if you want to. Don't rename it just yet. Right Click the New Folder, go to Properties, then to Customize, and then click Change Icon. Here is the trick, go to the middle and you should see some blank spaces. Those are transparent icons, select one of those then press OK -> Apply -> OK.

   Name your folder. Press rename and instead of the file press ALT+0160 (Remember to keep the ALT button pressed down while typing the numbers). ALT+0160 makes a space that is not the same as a normal space.

   You should have finished your new invisible file, Congratulations.

   For it to work on your laptop you need to keep Holding down the Alt key you will also need to hold the FN key and type the numbers "0160." These are over the letters m, j, o, m. Let go of all of the keys and hit enter. Holding the Alt and typing those numbers will name the folder as a space, pretty much giving it no name.

   Note: Make sure the Num Lock on the laptop is selected.
   
   
   

 Tips

• To show your hidden files/fold/icon, do the following:
  • Double click my computer icon
  • Click tools, then folder options.
  • When the window pops up, click view on the top tab.
  • Then look for the show hidden files and folder.
  • And when you have found it, click on show hidden files and folder
  • Click apply or ok.
  • Voila! your file and folder appeared.
    • This method works BETTER with the transparent icons.
• This is very useful for hiding your inappropriate videos.
• To search for hidden files and folders, with transparent icons and find it.
  • Go to start
  • Search
  • When the window pops up, on the side where it says what you want to search for, click all files and folders.
  • When the side changes, type in the name of the file/folder/icon.
    • • Also click the drop down list to the hard disk local drive, and search for it in there.
  • After you have done all the steps above, click search.
  • After a couple of minutes the search should be done, and the file will show up, in the middle of the window.
• You can also do this:
  • Right click your icon, file, folder
  • Click properties.
  • When the window pops up, look on the bottom of the window, and you will see the attributes.
  • Checkmark (click) The hidden attribute, and refresh your desktop.
  • Tada! your icon/file/folder is not there anymore.
• If you have a personal diary on your computer, this is the solution.
• Use it only for personal files.
• To view the searched file(s) click or double click on it.
• You have found it.

Warnings

• You may get in serious trouble if you're hiding bad stuff.
• It can be useful to make an invisible file inside an other invisible file but if people find the first one, they are most likely to find the second.
• You can have multiple invisible files on your desktop if you do the numpad combination again because all it does is make an other space.
• This invisible file isn't 100% invisible. There are tricky ways to search for it.
• This isn't illegal, but don't use it to hide illegal stuff!
• If you do not type 0160 in the keypad the file name will not be blank.
• All a proper nerd's got to do to find your file is to browse to the folder it's in with Windows Explorer (the file manager) and view the folder in Details mode. The name and icon will still be blank but the attributes (e.g. size, last modified) will show up. The file is unprotected, just invisible in any view mode but Details.
