How to Heal a Cut Due to Dry Skin

Many people's hands get cuts on them due to dry skin, especially in the winter months. Here are just a few tips and tricks to get rid of the cuts, and help with the dryness of your hands.

 Steps

    1
First, spread petroleum jelly (or Vaseline) in the cut with a cotton swab. Do not dip the swab in the jelly more than once, because you could contaminate the jelly.
    2
Once the cut is covered with petroleum jelly, cover it with a bandage. If the cut is on your fingers, you can simply roll a finger cot over the cut.
    3
Continue spreading petroleum jelly periodically over the cut, changing the bandage each time.
If your hands are dry all over, you might consider using a thick, creamy medical lotion or petroleum jelly, and spreading it over the dry area. Cover your hands with plastic gloves. If your hands are extremely dry, you might try a Paraffin treatment. (You can buy a Paraffin maker at the grocery store or just get one treatment at your local medical spa).

Prevent Further Dryness

    1
Don't use instant hand sanitizers very often. When the germs are stripped from your hands, there is a period where your hands are completely clean and exposed to cold, dry air. This causes dryness. Additionally, as odd as it sounds, the sanitizer strips weak germs of your hands, leaving a clean slate for strong germs. The stronger germs, which are unaffected by the sanitizer, can multiply and cause sickness.
    2
Wash your hands often enough to kill bacteria, but not so often that the soap strips your hands. The antibacterial properties not only kill germs, but also some of your skin cells. This causes dryness.
    3
Use medicated, unscented lotion or petroleum jelly often on the exposed area.
