How to Create a Successful Product
Create a Successful Product
This article gives comprehensive steps to creating a successful product. Pay particular attention to the Warnings section as this task can be particularly dangerous if completed irresponsibly.
Steps
1
Plan your product. Aim to carry out as much research as possible. Find out what people require and how much they are willing to pay.
2
Gather together some ideas, then choose the best ones and develop them.
3
Make a prototype model using cheaper materials (e.g. paper/cardboard/scrap plastic). Ensure that all measurements are correct.
4
Measure and mark out. Using a set square or a tri square, make sure that all angles are correct. Draw guidelines for which your cutting will be based around.
5
Begin to cut out the model. Use a tenon saw for straight edges or a coping saw for curved/detailed edges.
6
Use a file or a belt sander to smooth all of the edges, making sure that there are no sharp or hazardous parts.
7
Assemble the pieces together. You may wish to use glue, tape or nails for this exercise.
8
Paint or add any further details or decor to your product.
9
Your product is finished. You now need to evaluate your product. Think about: 'what went well', 'what didn't go well' and 'what could be improved'.
10
Now, think! Is this product suitable? Is it definitely finished? Would I purchase this product? If no, why not?
11
Then, in an efficient manner, you should tidy up the materials which you have used.
Warnings
Be careful when using any powerful machinery - always wear safety goggles and never place fingers near blades or sharp cutters.
Never operate a piece of machinery unless you have been shown how to!
