How to Frame a Cross Stitch Project

Cross stitch is an engaging form of relaxation and it allows people (even uncoordinated, uncreative people like me) to create something beautiful and full of memories. If you are anything like me, you will want to share your project with the world and here are a few easy steps to frame and display your cross stitch project.

Steps

    1
    Create your cross stitch project.
    2
Decide how much of the white cheesecloth you would like to keep. This decides how big your frame will be.
    3
Find a frame that will fit your project. Decide how you would like to mount your project, with a padded mounting board or a non-padded mounting board.

Non-padded Mounting Board

    1
This method works the best when you are using a frame with glass.
    2
Make sure you have a little cheesecloth that hangs over your mounting board. Then, after cutting off the excess fabric, you can tape the cloth down to the back of the mounting board. This keeps the edges of your project from fraying.
    3
Spray the project with spray-on adhesive (re-positionable or permanent).
    4
    Place in frame.

Padded Mounting Board

    1
This backing works best for frames without glass.
    2
Spray the project with Scotchgard. This helps prevent stains but it can be skipped.
    3
Same as before, make sure you have a little cheesecloth that hangs over your mounting board. Then, after cutting off the excess fabric, you can tape the cloth down to the back of the mounting board. This keeps the edges of your project from fraying.
    4
Spray the project with spray-on adhesive.
    5
    Place in frame.

 Tips

Look for frames at thrift stores or yard sales. These get you the best deals.
To treat stains, dampen the cloth and treat it with soap of dish washing liquid. Rinse.
Use Scotchgard to prevent future stains.
Use repositioning spray-on adhesive instead of permanent to allow for easy changes.

Warnings

Make sure to be absolutely sure of your placement before using permanent spray-on adhesive.
